Call for Submissions

The editors of Transect invite you to submit your work– studio projects, theses, independent research, class essays, speculations, art, or other media– for inclusion in Transect Volume 6! Undergraduate and graduate students may submit for publication. Interested faculty should contact the editors directly.
Work must be submitted by May 31, 2024 for consideration!
Details:
Submitted work must have been completed between September 1, 2023 and May 10, 2024. For work intended to be completed in the summer of 2024, authors may submit a short proposal or abstract for consideration. Work must be completely original, previously unpublished, and adhere to accepted citation standards of academic and design work. Work with more than one author must be submitted with the consent of all authors.
All submissions must be made as a single <10MB PDF. Any included figures that were not totally produced by the author(s) must be cited and the work must remain coherent if they are replaced or removed.
Submitted files must not contain any identifying information (ex. name, email, phone number, studio critic, etc) so that they may be reviewed anonymously. Authors may submit more than one project for consideration, but only one per submission type.
Submitters will be notified of acceptance in early September.
Submission Types:
Project Submissions
- Please submit one PDF named “Transect6-Project-[TITLE]” containing:
- A 125-500 word project statement that identifies a concept, issue, or position on architecture the submission engages (theses may have a statement up to 1000 words)
- 3-7 images or sets of images that communicate the project
Essays/Independent Research Submissions
- Please submit one PDF named “Transect6-Essay-[TITLE]” containing:
- The essay in its entirety OR, if longer than 4000 words, a 1500-3000 word excerpt/summary, including figures/illustrations
- A complete bibliography, including citations for figures if applicable
- Research with a significant design component may include an additional 3-7 images or sets of images that communicate the project
Prospective Summer Submissions
- Please submit one PDF named “Transect6-Summer-[TITLE]” containing one of the following:
- A proposal submitted/accepted for a summer research program (ex. the NJIT Provost Summer Research Fellowship)
- An approved independent study syllabi
- A 125-500 word proposal/abstract
Other Submissions (Including but not limited to art pieces, models, installations, or poetry)
- Please submit one PDF named “Transect6-Other-[TITLE]” containing:
- A 125-500 word project statement that identifies a concept, issue, or position on architecture the submission engages
- Seven or fewer images or sets of images that communicate the project
