Fatima Fardos

Stories have been narrated for time immemorial, preceding even gathering around a fire. Stories are lessons learned by one and passed to another in hopes of educating and preserving. That some have survived to this day is a testament to their enduring power and importance. As time passes, stories are subject to change through their retelling, re-remembering, revisiting, and restarting. This dynamic nature makes stories inherently collaborative – they evolve as individuals bring their backgrounds, emotions, and perspectives to the narrative, creating a unique and personalized experience.

Historically, architecture has served as a medium for reflecting narratives and ideas about society. This project seeks to democratize that tradition by providing a platform where narratives are reflected and enacted. The spatial and relational proximity of the panels to one another is intentional, inviting each person to become the art of their own experience. In doing so, our narrative becomes an ever-changing architecture, with each encounter adding a new layer to the story of our lives. Just as the stories we hear or read, our narratives will continue to evolve and grow, shaping the collective fabric of our shared experiences.

Fatima Fardos is pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. This project was originally prepared for ARCH 196 taught by Thomas Ogorzalek in Spring 2023.

This project was published as part of Transect Volume 5: Pedagogy (2024), Jacob Swanson, Daniel Girgis, Dhruvi Rajpopat, Fatima Fardos, Jimenna Alcantar, Elizabeth Kowalchuk, eds.
